These carpets are so pure that you can put a baby to sleep on them and be worry-free.
Our supplier insists on strict standards at every step of the manufacturing process in order to provide the finest, safest carpets possible:
- The company buys only wool clipped from sheep raised where no herbicides or pesticides are used. The fiber is tested regularly for purity.
- The wool is washed, spun and made into carpet without the use of any synthetic chemicals. No mothproofing is used.
- Two mills in Denmark and one in Australia produce the carpets during special runs. In preparation, the factories remove the chemicals they ordinarily use (primarily synthetic latex) and scrub away any residue. Nature's Carpet uses only genuine, natural latex to bind the wool face to natural jute backing.
- The carpets have been tested for health effects (ASTM E 981) by Anderson Laboratories in Vermont. This is the same company that did the highly publicized tests in 1992 in which mice died after being exposed to air drawn from carpet samples that people suspected were making them sick
If you order samples, you can feel the difference. Nature's Carpet is soft and supple. Ordinary carpet feels as stiff as cardboard. Pliable carpets lasts longer than crunchy ones, we believe.
Colors
Nature's Carpets do not depend on dye for their rich look except for three colors, Elymus Sunset Tan, Spartina Golden Straw and Spartina Clover Green. Colors in the other carpets are mixtures of the whites, creams, browns and blacks that grow naturally on sheep.
These carpets are made in widths of 4 meters (about 13 feet 1 inch) except for Cladium Granite Ridge, Sandstone Ridge and Athabaskan Ridge. They are 12 feet wide. All styles can be made into area rugs through our custom binding service.
With these carpets, we recommend our
wool carpet pad, a traditional padding made of wool, camel hair and mohair mechanically bonded to jute.
