More about Safecoat Safe Seal

This is a multipurpose sealer. Besides stopping outgassing and preparing porous surfaces for adhesive, it can be used to seal wood and drywall, grout and plaster. Test surfaces first in inconspicuous areas to be sure the product absorbs completely.

To use it as a grout sealer, wipe any excess off tile with a damp cloth or sponge while still wet.

This product is also excellent at controlling formaldehyde emissions from fiberglass-batt insulation. Lightly mist it onto the insulation.

To use Safecoat Safe Seal to improve the bonding power of adhesives and coatings, apply a thin coat to the slab and bottom of the tile, for example, before laying the piece into the adhesive. The Safecoat Safe Seal does not need to dry first.

How to use this product

Preparation

Do not use when air or surface temperature is below 55°F or if humidity is high.

Application

Always have adequate ventilation.

Test in inconspicuous area to be sure product absorbs completely. Before using, stir Safecoat Safe Seal by gently rolling the container to avoid air bubbles. Then apply as is to a dry surface, using a sponge, squeegee or appropriate spray equipment. It is important to apply in very thin coats. Thick coats will overly darken the color of the underlying surface. Correct application will often slightly deepen the color of the existing surface.

This product looks milky when applied but dries clear.

If you are using Safecoat Safe Seal as a grout sealer, wipe the excess off tile with a damp cloth or sponge while the sealer is still wet.

Drying

Under normal conditions, Safecoat Safe Seal dries to touch within one hour and can be recoated after two hours. Normal conditions include a dry surface, access to fresh air flow, moderate humidity and temperatures above 55°F. Thick application, high humidity or conditions other than normal will cause Safecoat Safe Seal to dry and cure more slowly.

Cleanup

Clean tools and equipment while they are still wet. AFM recommends using SafeChoice Super Clean and warm water.

Storage

Unlike conventional products, Safecoat products are made without formaldehyde preservatives. Store in airtight containers. Do not contaminate. If you paint directly from the can, use a moldy brush, mix in unused material or even sneeze into the can, organisms may grow. Do not allow to freeze; ingredients may coagulate. To prolong shelf life, keep between 45°F and 120°F.
